Top 5 Things To Consider While Choosing A Personal Care Home

Many people hope to live in their own homes for as long as possible. When it becomes impossible due to health and/or safety concerns, consider these top 5 things while choosing a personal care home.

1. Care
You can depend on our dedicated staff to remind and assist you or your loved one with daily living needs. Our team provides 24-hour assistance and each staff member is well trained to meet the care needs of each individual resident. Our doors are always open to those who are considering a move to a personal care home. It’s an important decision and we appreciate the thought and time it takes to make the right decision.

For a lot of people, caring for an elderly family member is part of daily life. You may not be looking for a permanent stay, so you can consider the short-term option of Respite Care. Being a full-time caregiver to a family member or loved one is a job that can be both physically and mentally demanding, though. This is why Respite Care is so important! Respite Care is short-term, planned or emergency care. This type of care relieves a person’s primary caregiver but ensures that the person’s daily needs are still taken care of.

2. Meals
When we are aging and losing sensory sensitivity, food is a huge concern. The meals may contain all the dietary requirements, but does it meet the palatable needs? The meals not only need to taste great; they also need to be visually encouraging. As we get older, we sometimes lose our interest and desire for food.

When you make an appointment to tour a personal care home, schedule your tour around mealtimes. This is a great way to see for yourself how the meals smell, look, and if the current residents are enjoying their meals. Often if you are in a facility during mealtime, you will be offered to eat with them. If this happens, take them up on the offer.

Here at Beehive Homes of Gainesville, we pay close attention to each of our residents and their dietary needs. All residents do not have the same dietary orders and we make sure to not only keep track of how much of each meal the residents eat, but we also make sure they are getting the appropriate meal as prescribed by their physician.

3. Cleanliness
Cleanliness is a top priority. Everyone knows cleanliness not only is the key to healthiness, but it is also necessary in order to provide a safe environment for our residents. Our staff will go above and beyond to pamper each resident while providing exceptional housekeeping and laundry services. Each suite is checked daily to keep our residence clean and sanitized. Personal laundry is done twice each week and returned to the residents’ room. All laundry is done separately; no two individuals will be done together.

If a resident’s room needs special attention, we are happy to do whatever they need. If a resident enjoys cleaning and wants to clean their own suite, they are welcome to help. We encourage our residents to care for themselves, just as they would if they were at home.

4. Recreation
We have a wide variety of activities for our residents. We understand and appreciate the uniqueness that our residents bring. During our admission process, we ask the resident and their family members to provide us with their activities of interest so we can work them into our monthly activity calendar.

Group activities for outside events are commonly planned and interaction with people outside the facility is encouraged. We always enjoy visits from community groups and really enjoy our volunteers that perform live music for our residents and staff.

5. Fellowship
We enjoy our time with friends and family. It is very stimulating for our residents to have the opportunity to engage in conversation with one another. It brings great joy to us all to see the bond grow and develop into a meaningful friendship.

We are blessed with the volunteer pastors that come and minister to our residents. They enjoy the services, but really light-up once the singing begins. Music is a great way for our residents to connect with one another.

When the weather permits, our residents love to sit on the porch and share stories of the good old days while watching the traffic go by.

These are our Top 5 Things To Consider While Choosing A Personal Care Home and we hope you will consider our home while you are making a decision to move you or a loved one to a personal care home in Gainesville, Georgia.
